This was my first time at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. I’m currently living in the Orlando, FL area so the two hour drive North up I-95 was no sweat. I’m originally from Mississippi and a dyed in the wool Jazz addict, so the New Orleans Jazz Festival was a regular event for me. The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is no slouch. It’s held right downtown in the middle of the Jacksonville skyline and features top notch Jazz entertainment. I’m a saxophone guy and seeing Sonny Rollins on Friday night was a real treat. Nice job, Sonny. Saturday night the featured entertainment was Patti Austin with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and I’m here to tell you, that was some kinda good.
If someone were holding a gun to my head and said “pick either the New Orleans Jazz Festival or the Jacksonville Jazz Festival?” New Orleans. But don’t rule out the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, it is a quality festival with all the trimmings. Nice job, Jacksonville, I had a really good time.
